Information about how the call schedule is created (2011)

  • You are only on call during the inpatient half of your clerkship, which MAY include the weekend in between the switch.
  • As long as you have a total of 4 calls, including 1 weekend call (Sat or Sun), you may make whatever change to your schedule that works for you and your team. See other restrictions below. Please let me know about changes so I can update this real-time calendar.
  • Regular call is from 7am to about 10 or 11pm (even Sat and Sun).
  • You should never take call the same night as another student from your floor.
  • Med students do not take call with Sub-Is or Rotating residents if they are on with a PL2, unless otherwise noted by your team.
  • Although it would be ideal to take q 4 call with the same intern, this is not usually feasible. However, I try to have you on call with the same intern at least twice.
  • I try to make sure each student has only one weekend call - but when there are more students, this is not always feasible.
  • If you are on call on Thursday, you will not be able to present your patients on Friday morning at Rounds because we do not want you to miss lectures, which start around 8am.
  • I try to make sure each student has the opportunity to present their patient the next morning at Rounds 2-3 times. It is not always possible to present after each call if, for example, your call is on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.
  • If you are post-call, you should still attend all afternoon events (like SIM or an Teaching Senior-led teaching session).
